Literature Text

There lays another world akin to ours and alike in many ways than some would ever imagine so.  The people eat and sleep to survive.  Villages and cities have risen up over the course of time and history.  However this world was not up to the time we would be at in this present time.  It, they, were still developing.  There were five continents in all that each their own form of royalty.  The buildings, whether they were castle or cluster of governemt buildings, were centered on the contintent as best as it could be among the often largest cities of the region.  The vastly flat and seldom soft hilly continent was given the name of Windmill Plains.  It was the largest of the five continents and the center in a ring of land that made up the five lands.  It saw all four seasons as it did it's fair share of people across the world's surface.  The Golden Land lay to the south in a very humid and warm region.  Despite the sand storms among the amazing dunes from coast to coast, people have settled in.  Water was something of a scarce resource with small groups riding out with carts and buckets to bring it back in, making small scale wars over it relatively common.  To the North was a great range of mountains and plateaus covered in snow the further up you went.  This was the Crystalized Caverns.  The numerous Ursa kind had taken this land as their home without force or trouble.  Deep inside the farthest pits and tunnels were crystal, gems, rubies, and the ever present source of warmth, magma.  The living Ursa race made peace with this place and lived along side safely and carefully.  To the west was a ring of stone spires so wide and great, many speculted it once held the floating city where the ocean now lay.  This was the Angel Falls region.  Only those who made their living in water from the begininng had lived there in the underwater cities and towns.  There was however, a scarce surface town for others to come and visit upon.  They had stone and small cave systems in the spires to an Atlantis like city.  Flying high above almost out of ordinary sight of the Windlill Plains was Sky City.  Sky City had no visibile way to keep itself sustained flight yet, the large chunks of rocks linked with bridges and aqua ducts remained up in the sky.  This location was the most dedicated to who ever or whatever had created their world.  The last continent however was the only one to be more barren and unforgiving than the Golden Land.  It bore no name but there was a single cluster of castle remains being slowly repaired.  This small area of what could hardly be called life was dubbed Black Babylon.  The ground was scarred with black desolate rock and numerous openings of lava.  Dark clouds hardly ever moved along the continent but there was enough of light from elsewhere to see about.  A terrible, wicked woman resided here not as a queen but a lord...

Close to the capital city in Windmill Plains, a lone young woman of nineteen years was working day by day so she could continue to survive.  Krystal Snowpaw was left to fend for her self many years ago when she was only three years old.  Her parents left her in the little hut they had built among some trees in the thickest of the woods.  It wasn't long before one evening she woke up alone to stumble into town crying herself to death over her missing parents.  The people took notice of her as little Krystal walked around shouting out for mommy and daddy.  Nearly all those outside around the markets were disgusted with the little fox.  Krystal had four tails and her fur had no color, it was purely white.  To top it off she bore a red little gemstone on her forehead that seemingly had no way to hold itself up.  No string nor pins to hold it to her.  One would guess it was part of her.  Eventually little Krystal started walking out of town after being told to turn around and leave only to wind up running into an adult in armor and a bow in hand.
"Ex-excuse m-me..." Krystal sobbed.  "Are y-you my momma?"
"Sick little child, I am not and would not bear the shame of being your mother."
"O-oh..do you know where my mamma is?"  The feline that had a crying child at it's feet was named Anne.  Anne was from Black Babylon under orders from her lord to search for a specific item.  She stood and watched the toddler sniffle as snot rolled down a little.  Disgusted, Anne kicked the young fox over off her paws and into the base of a tree's trunk.  Krystal's screams intensified from her spine hitting the raw wood.
"Though I do not care for this world's supposed god, I think I'd be doing them a favor by removing you from this world.  Perhaps then you'll find your mother."  Anne drew back an arrow and steadied her aim at the blood red stone on the child's forehead.  "Say goodnight you little brat."  Anne let go just as Krystal focused her tear blurred sight on the bow.  The arrow made contact with fur and flesh...the flesh of the market's doctor.
"You'd just pray on an innocent child like that?!  You're messed up lady.  Insane!"  His name was Nathaniel.  He took care of most medical cases outside the castle town walls.
"Why of all people would you, a doctor, shield such a freak?  Have you not seen the faces of disgust as this child walked about crying?  Did you not hear of their talk?" Anne said as she started to walk around a little, speaking with her hands some.  Nathan picked Krystal up while leaving the arrow in his shoulder.
"Hush now little child, you're going to be alright.  And as for you lady, it's something called a heart.  A heart helps you care even for those you do not know.  If it meant saving a child at the cost of my life, so they could go on to shape the world, I'd do it again."  Anne laughed to herself almost under her breath while drawing another arrow.
"So be it.  I'll take your life first so that I may kill the child."  She drew the string back and let the arrow fly as it would.  Nathan held onto Krystal tight and ran off back for his own building.  The feline archer let them run away so that she'd have another chance to try again.  It was a trivial moment for a kill to her.

In the morning Nathan was letting his dear friend and the nurse take care of anyone who walked in with a problem or question.  Krystal was soundly asleep in his bed, while he had slept on the floor elsewhere, tightly clinging to a portion of the blanket like a stuffed toy.  Nathan sat at the side of her bed as to brush her hair aside to get a look at the blood red gemstone on her forehead.  In the previous night it looked as if she were merely bleeding.
"Hmmm, very interesting.  Nothing appears to hold it in place on her forehead unless it's lodged into her skull.  No, it cant be."  He assumed if it were to be lodged in her skull it'd have killed her long ago, having quite possibly punctured her brain.  The doctor piled up a few books on his desk in hopes he'd find some sort of clue as to what it was.  Religious texts, bibles, medical records across the globe, were stacked almost the roof.  Eventually little Krystal woke up.  She sat up straight to look around the room thinking she was home.
"Momma?  Are you here?"  Nathan looked back from his desk to see the young fox stirring.
"Good morning child.  How are you feeling?"
"Where's my mommy and daddy?"  His hand went to his cheek as he tried to figure out how to explain the situation she was in.  The older gentleman put her on his knee and began to tell her how there was no sign of hr parents anywhere.

Sixteen years later Krystal had found a way to manage her feelings about being parentless as well as to learn medicene from Nathan and his friends.  Nathaniel and his nurse had in a way become parents to the colorless fox.  At nineteen years old now she was about as well versed in practice as the doctor himself was.  Now with as much as she's learned and as much time she's lived with him, it was time for the fox to move on.  Krystal picked up her belongings one afternoon along with a heavy heart to return to the hut she was familiar with.  It was a world away from the life she grew into back in town.  So quiet.  So empty.  Alone once again.  The young woman knew it had to be done however so that they could have their space back to resume business properly.  Upon entering the door revealed a room covered in webs and dust in amazing levels.  First order of business was to wash the blanket and pillow that had no been disturbed then move on to clearing off the shelves by the small fire pit.  The multi-tailed vixen was lucky that there was a small lake near by.  She tossed the blanket and pillow into a small bin crafted out of sticks standing in the dirt so she could sit down and write in her diary she brought with her.

"Well, I've finally moved now.  I'm without friends or family out here.  Okay I guess I shouldn't say that really, I'm still allowed to visit Nathan and Mary but not stay.  For now I'm just taking care of my blankets and pillow so I can have something moderately clean to sleep on.  I've also got to figure out something later to use to start a fire in the pit so I can heat something up to eat.  It'll be my first meal on my own so I'm sure I'll make more than I actually need.  There was a box too on the bed when I got back that seemed relatively cleaner than anything in hut.  I took a peek inside and there were a few things that kind of took my breath away.  A peice of gold with a soft blue orb and red tassle that sits behind the ears, a long ribbon with a rounded diamond jewel, and a large soft blue robe.  It all must have been my mother's belongings...and I can't help but wonder why it's only turned up now when I return here..."  Krystal continued to write in her diary for awhile longer before heading back up when the sun started to set.

Krystal sat with her box of items on the bed while a flame sat cozily in it's pit, snapping and crackling.  She ran her fingers of the weighted gold and glas blue orb wondering what it would look like on her mother, then herself.  The slab of meat on the shoddily made pan was letting of some of it's fat as it started to let off some smoke.  She got up quickly to take care of her dinner and clean up around a little so none of the fat would jump about to start a fire.  Shortly after being able to eat the slab of meat, with indeed some left over, Krystal got into bed after setting the box and her diary just under it and extinguishing the candle on the bed stand.
Finally getting around to yet another re-write of the story I've been trying to get done since high school. I will be uploading a sort of prologue in due time when I can find a way to continue it and be happy with it at the same time. Right now I'm starting off with an intro and some back story to Krystal Snowpaw [link] . There was a nice bit of change here too from what I had originally planned but nothing drastic. There's still the adult who abuses and tries to kill her as a child but it's someone we'll see and know more of later down the road.

All Characters in this story are mine.
